Guidelines for Students
Follow the steps below in order to write the project.
Step 1
1. Choose a topic of your own. It can be any person, place, thing or ideas that you would like to share with the class. Explain your choice (Write about 2-3 sentences).
2. Make a list of facts that you know about the topic of your choice.
3. Make a list of questions asking about the things you don't know but you would like to know about the topic of your choice.
4. Formulate the main research question you want to answer.
5. Make a list of places / sources where you can find the answers on these questions.
6. Fill in the first part of the Checklist:
1. Did you choose the topic?
2. Did you explain your choice?
3. Did you write a list of facts you know?
4. Did you make a list of what you'd like to know, but you don't know?
5. Did you ask questions?
6. Did you formulate the main research question?
7. Did you list your possible sources of information?
Step 2
7. Collect all the new information you found about your topic.
8. Summarize each source of information you found in about 5-7 sentences.
9. Answer all the questions that you did not know but wanted to know about the topic in the very beginning of the project.
10. Fill in the second part of the Checklist:
1. Did you collect enough sources of information?
2. Did you find different kinds of sources (textual, visual information)?
3. Did you summarize each source of information?
4. Did you answer all the questions about the things you did not know about the topic?
Step 3
11. Answer the main research question in the final part of the project. In order to do this, arrange your information according to a plan.
12. Write the first draft of your final part. Be sure that it includes:
i) interesting opening to arouse a reader's curiosity;
ii) body that answers the main research question;
iii) paragraph that presents your opinion about the subject;
iv) conclusion.
13. Fill in the third part of the Checklist:
1. Did you write the plan?
2. Did you arrange the information according to the plan?
3. Did you write the first draft of your final part?
4. Does your draft include an interesting opening?
5. Does the body answer the main research question?
6. Did you express your personal opinion about the topic?
7. Did you write a conclusion?
Step 4
14. Read the first draft in order to edit it. (Is the information arranged in a proper way? Are there logical links between the parts of the project?) Correct the language mistakes (if any), make sure that you used capital letters where necessary. Did you divide the project into paragraphs? Is the punctuation correct? Check the word order, the usage of tenses and the spelling. Write the final version of your paper.
15. Fill in the fourth part of the Checklist:
1. Is the information arranged in a proper way?
2. Are there logical links between the parts of the project?
3. Did you correct the language mistakes?
4. Did you check the punctuation and capitalization?
5. Did you divide you paper into paragraphs?
6. Did you check the usage of tenses and spelling?
7. Did you write a final version of your paper?
8. Did you fill in the reflection form of the project?
Step 5
16. Prepare a presentation of your project. Make your presentation attractive and interesting.
17. Teach the class about the topic of your choice. Make your presentation attractive and interesting. (For example, you may write a small book and present it to the class, give a lecture or make a movie or a Power Point presentation.)
18. Fill in the Reflection Form:
1. Why did you choose this particular topic?
2. What difficulties did you encounter?
3. What did you feel while you were working on the project?
4. Do you think that you have succeeded in your project and what mark do you expect to get?
