Summer School Blog Project

Instructions for Students

The final product of this year's project is a video blog based on a number of digital tasks completed in the course of the year.

 

The task

Imagine that during the summer your parents sent you to a summer school in the UK. You were asked to make a blog about your experience in the camp.  You are going to film a number of episodes about your adventures.

 

Step 1: Getting Started

1. Get into groups of four.

2. Go to the Internet and learn about summer schools in the UK:

  • who studies there

  • where the school is situated

  • where the students live

  • what activities they can participate in

  • what interesting places they can visit during the course

 

3. Choose a school you want to spend your summer at.

4. Write a short passage describing the school of your choice and the reasons your group has chosen it (Part 1 of your final paper). Send it to your teacher for approval.

Step 2: Presenting Yourself on the Blog

1. Decide on your identities (you may choose an imaginary person) and get ready to present yourself. Write about yourself, make sure you include the following elements:

  • Your name

  • Where you are from

  • Your hobbies

  • Other

 

2. Write down a short talk about yourself (Part 2 of your final paper).Edit it. Send the written task to your teacher for approval.

3. Make a short video that presents all the members of your group. Remember that each one of you has to look straight into the camera and talk without reading from a page. Send your video to your teacher for approval. (Recording 1)

Step 3: Your First Imaginary Day at the Summer School 

1. Write down a list of questions (4- 5 questions) you may ask the members of your group if you met them for the first time (about each other’s family, hobbies, favorite foods, favorite movies / celebs, school, country, other) (Part 3 of your final paper).

2. Write down the answers to the questions. (Part 4 of your final paper). Edit the questions and the answers. 

3. Send the written task (parts 3 and 4) to your teacher for approval.

4. Role play the situation.

5. Record your talk and send it to your teacher (Recording 2).

NB: Each student has to ask 4-5 questions.

Step 4: Sports Activities to Choose From

 

1. In the end of the first day of school you get a list of sports activities to choose from. Decide which activities each of you want to participate in. Make a list (Part 5 of your final paper).

2. Make sure each member of the group chooses his / her own activity (different from the others).

3. Write down a description of the activity and the reasons why you like it. (Part 6 of your final paper).

4. Send the written task to your teacher for approval. (Parts 5 and 6)

5. Discuss with your group your choice. Try to persuade the others to take part in the activity of your choice.

6. Record your conversation send it to your teacher (Recording 3).

 

NB: Each student has to ask 4-5 questions.

Step 5: Attractions in London

1. Go to the Internet and learn about attractions in London. Choose two attractions you like. Write a passage about them (Part 7 of your final paper).Send it to your teacher for approval.

2. Your friends and you go on a sightseeing tour of London to see the attractions of your our choice. Share your opinion about the experience with your friend.

  • what you like and why

  • what you do not like and why

 

3. Write down the script of your conversation. (Part 8 of your final paper).

4. Role play the situation, record it and send your recording to your teacher. (Recording 7).

Step 6: Your Experiences In School

1. The summer school is over. You are leaving in two hours. Write down things you might have liked / disliked about the summer school, events you would never forget, how you felt, how you would keep in touch, what you are planning to do after the summer school (Part 9 of your final paper).

2. Write a script of a conversation in which you are discussing your experiences in school with your friends (Part 10 of your final paper). Send parts 9 and 10 of your final paper to your teacher for approval.

3. Practice your conversation with your friends. Record your conversation. (Recording 8). Send it to your teacher.

Step 7: Sharing Your Blog

1. Go to the Blogger. Create a Blog for your group. Upload all your videos and texts to your blog. Share your blog with your class.

2. Go to the blogs of other groups.

3. Make yourself acquainted with them

4. Choose one you liked the most.

5. Explain your choice.
