Instructions for Students

Step 1: Reading short stories. (Done at home – individually) (20%)

  • Read 1-2 stories (provided by your teacher)

  • Complete a writing assignment that is connected to the stories you have read and given by your teacher in class. Hand it in.

Step 2: Working on the stories you have read

  • Get into groups of up to 4 students.

  • Record yourself reading a story OR record yourself expressing your opinion about the story.

 

Step 3: Getting ready to write your own story. (Done in class – in groups) (20%)

  • Decide what you want to talk about: your family, things you like to do, your favorite food, something interesting you did.

  • Write your ideas down in Google Docs.

  • Send your notes to your teacher for approval.

 

Step 4: Writing your first draft. (Done in class – in groups) (20%)

  • Write your first draft of the story.

  • Make sure your story has:

  1. an opening

  2. a body

  3. a conclusion

  • Check spelling, punctuation and capitalization.

  • Send your first draft to your teacher.

 

Step 6: Writing your final draft. (Done in class – in groups) (20%)

  • Rewrite the story based on your teacher's comments.

  • Send your final draft to the teacher for grading.

 

Step 7: Creating an e-book. (Done in class – in groups) (40%)

  • Go to YouTube to learn how StoryJumper works

  • Go to StoryJumper.

  • Make a book:

  1. Think about the cover

  2. Divide your text into pages – 1-2 sentences per page

  3.  Look for illustrations

  • Record your book:

  1. Read what you have written aloud. 

  2. Make sure that each one of a group has his/ her role.

  3.  Check pronunciation of difficult words.

  4.  Practice your part.

  5. Make sure you pause in the right places, your reading is smooth and understandable

  6. Emphasize important words, make your feeling emotional.

  7. Add background music/ sounds (optional)

  8. Add the recording to your e-book.

  • Share your e-book with your teacher and other students of your class.
